Welcome to Living On Macros! My name is Amy and I’m just your average day-to-day girl who enjoys anything to do with healthful living and eating; reading, cooking, eating, exercising, you name it. This is my journey through trying to live a healthy, balanced life.
What does “Living On Macros” mean?
How do I explain this without talking too much? Macro nutrients are basically the breakdown of foods, i.e. fats, proteins and carbohydrates. I try to follow a diet not necessarily focusing on calorie count, but more so getting the right balance of these macro nutrients that make up calories through whole, natural foods.
For instance my breakfast can consist of 30 grams of carbs, 15 grams of fat and 20 grams of protein which will even out to exactly 335 calories if I eat those exact amounts. How do I know this? Check out these breakdowns:
- 1 gram of fat = 9 calories
- 1 gram of protein = 4 calories
- 1 gram of carbs = 4 calores
Anyway, those are the basics. I am still learning myself, but I seem to have a pretty good system.
My story
I never really had that moment in life where I can say “Aha! OK, so that’s where I got fat”. I’ve always been on the brink of being “overweight” for my height, but have only breached it once by 10 pounds for about 6 months. Aside from that, I’ve just always been uncomfortable in my skin.
When I was 19, I started trying to do something about it by testing out every fad diet out there. I can tell you one thing, those are not good for people with food addictions like me. I’d find myself binging every other day and making no progress at all.
Over the years, I have learned how to exercise properly (i.e. do more than just the elliptical) and what I should be eating to live a healthy life. I still struggle with food on a daily basis and am trying to learn what triggers my binges and gain better control.
Random facts about me that you didn’t care to know
- I’m a graphic designer by day.
- I love doing things with my hands, especially artsy stuff and cooking.
- I’ve always wanted to be a chef, but not in a restaurant.
- I will order anything that is mint chocolate chip flavored.
I am not trying to get people to look at my blog so don’t take this comment as something like that (I hate getting those kind of comments!) but I wrote a post about macros a long time ago that I thought you’d enjoy! http://wp.me/p1B7vY-3CB

LOL, I don’t mind at all, I really appreciate the information. I’ve really been looking for a change the last 6 months or so and am ready to really put my all into this and want to do it right. I read through your BFL post and it looks awesome, especially since they focus on macros. I hate eating insane amounts of one macro just to get results, I want this to be a lifestyle. Thanks again! I’ll let you know what I choose and how it goes =)
